Couples therapy for cross-cultural couples, those living outside their country of origin, and those seeking to overcome challenges in their relationship. I support you in identifying and shifting patterns of communication to create the change you desire. Helping you see each other's perspectives more clearly is an important part of our work together. You may be struggling with trust, intimacy, jealousy, unresolved hurts, or differing life goals. Together, we create a space where both partners can express their needs and wishes while learning to navigate differences with greater understanding and care. We explore how your different family and cultural backgrounds, relational experiences, emotional needs, and bodily sensations influence your current dynamics.

I work with neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ couples, and those from a whole range of ethnic and faith backgrounds. I also work with other types of relationships: for example, friends or relatives who have fallen out and desperately want to find a way to get on.

How does it work?

Initial session

Commitment

Format

Our initial session is a chemistry check and a chance for me to gain a good understanding of what is going on in your couple. You can begin with a free 20-minute meeting, or a full-length paid session. It is up to you.

Couples therapy requires emotional investment. I ask for a 6-session commitment to get started – to allow space for the process to unfold. This includes at least one individual session per person where you might find it easier to express yourself frankly.

I use Zoom for our sessions. I prefer you to be in the same room, sitting side-by-side, but some sessions you might be apart. Every journey is unique. I adapt my approach to meet the specific needs and goals of your partnership over time.

How MUCH DOES IT COST?

I charge 150 euros for 90 minutes. I also offer longer sessions of two hours for 200 euros.

About

Meet

Dr Amy Bramley

I am a UK Chartered Psychologist and Psychotherapist with over seven years of clinical experience. In France, where I live, I am a psychopracticienne and am fully insured to practise.

Education

After a BSc in Psychology (The Open University, recognised by the British Psychological Society), and a Certificate in Counselling Skills (Middlesex University), I completed a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy (New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, and Middlesex University, London). My research looked at the long-term impacts of adolescent sexual grooming, and how these early experiences affect individuals well into adulthood. As part of my study, I developed guidelines on how to work with sexual abuse survivors. In 2020 to 2021, I completed a Certificate in Systemic Psychotherapy at Hestia, Barcelona, where I also did a two year internship, working with couples, families, and individuals. Prior to training, I completed an MA in Modern Languages (Cambridge University) and worked for many years in the NGO sector.

Trauma-informed Therapy
My research interests and my clinical experience with sexual and relational abuse survivors, as well as those fleeing war zones, have made me very attuned to what it means to work therapeutically with trauma. I also have a background in holistic healing, as I trained and worked as a yoga teacher. Trauma is something that impacts us on a cellular level, and I am very conscious that words alone are not sufficient to reach its effects.

Cross-Cultural & Expat Therapy

I specialise in working with multicultural couples, families, and individuals living outside their home countries – whether by choice or due to circumstances beyond their control, such as political upheaval. I have supported refugees and soldiers, and those navigating life under oppressive regimes. Over the past five years, I have worked extensively with clients living in the Middle East and North Africa. My own lived experience has spanned Spain, France, the UK, India, and Russia.

Language & Practice

While our therapeutic work will primarily take place in English, I am fluent in Russian and French, and speak conversational Spanish. We can easily draw upon these languages during our sessions whenever it helps to express nuances or make sense of complex feelings.
